South Bay Focus 2012: Opening Night


It's time for the Torrance Art Museum's annual celebration of our local art scene, the South Bay Focus. Although the exhibit has been open for a few days now, last night was our official opening. It was a fun time, with plenty of engaging art and delicious treats. ;-)

The show runs until December 15. That's not much time to enjoy this special show. So, don't delay coming around to check it out.

XYZ: The Geometric Impulse in Abstract Art

Gallery Two is currently hosting "XYZ: The Geometric Impulse in Abstract Art." Organized by Jessica Halonen and Emily Joyce, this exhibit seeks to showcase contemporary works that explore non-objective abstractions, utilizing the design and analytical techniques of geometric structure.

It's an engaging exhibition ranging from the subtle to the clamorous, across media from sculpture to painting to video. Exploring concepts from the material to the noumenal, this show raises interesting questions regarding perception and awareness.

Davis & Davis: Induction

With the current shows winding to their close on June 2nd, I figured we could look at Davis & Davis' Induction, which is part of TAM's "Two-Headed Monster" exhibit.

Like much of their work, Induction displays the duo's unique artistry with a playful sense of humor. Between two portraits of the arts, who are facing different directions as if they were representing opposing electric polarities, a wire connects them to a plastic cocoon, in which a gentle light glows; the alternating current of creativity between the two artists brings into illumination a unique vision, which may spring forth from the wires and tape like a beautiful butterfly.

It's a very fun work that takes up half of Gallery 2. Come check it out before the show wraps up.

Two-Headed Monster in Gallery 2

Featuring CamLab and Davis & Davis

Our most recent posts have been focusing on the existentialist-themed exhibit "Between the Knowing" but the TAM has two galleries. So, you may be wondering about the contents of Gallery 2.

Let it be known that Gallery 2 has become the lair of the "Two-Headed Monster"!!!!!

Curated by Jason Ramos, this exhibit will feature a two team, four person show. Team One is CamLab, comprised of Jemima Wyman and Anna Mayer. Team Two is Davis & Davis, comprised of Denise and Scott Davis.

With such imaginative minds given creative free range over Gallery 2, who knows what impossible things may happen that the world has never seen before?!! ;-)
